Friday
2010
Salvaged wood and cardboard, inflatable mattresses, adhesives
150 x 100 x 160 (cm)
This is the second version of Friday. The sculpture was made specifically for a gallery in London and the piece depicts details of the architecture of the immediate environment. Most of the materials were intentionally sourced around the area on the day of the install.
Friday is a series of sculptures made site-specifically for various art galleries in differing locations. So far versions have been created in Hoorn (Holland), London and Cheltenham (England). The materials of the sculpture consist of street detritus within the local area. These materials are often begged, borrowed and stolen on the day of the install making sure the supposed purpose of a raft is reflected in the improvisational way that it is created. The raft is then built on top a number of inflatable air beds. Each piece mirrors the architectural and design styles of the local architecture.
